Amazon Games has just confirmed what we already suspected since last year – Lost Ark is coming to North America and Europe in 2021, most specifically fall 2021. You can sign up for the upcoming closed technical alpha test right now in the brand-new Lost Ark English website., by using an Amazon account – go create one if you haven't already, the first test is coming this summer. Lost Ark is free-to-play, the press release confirms, so we're not facing one of the usually disappointing business model changes from East to West, thankfully.
Don't Miss: Lost Ark Mobile game development confirmed
While you need an Amazon account for a chance to become a beta tester and to join the Lost Ark forums or get official support, it isn't mandatory; however, it is recommended. But this isn't because you need a special launcher to play the game – in fact, a Lost Ark steam release is confirmed, and the page is already live.
Lost Ark remains one of the most polished and acclaimed MMORPGs of recent years, since its Korean release by late 2018. Other regions followed, including Russia and Japan, with the China release apparently still in the works.
Considering the scope of the game and the ambition driving a western launch, Amazon Games collaborated with developer Smilegate RPG in the daunting task of localizing and translating the world of Lost Ark for western players. This MMORPG will come with English voice over and subtitles, but also French, German, and Spanish options.
“We’ve been working closely with Amazon Games on Lost Ark, and continuing to grow our player base in the West,” said Chi Won Gil, CEO, Smilegate RPG. “Amazon Games is perfectly positioned to introduce Lost Ark to a new pool of players and grow that relationship with them through Amazon channels like Twitch and Prime Gaming.”
According to the official blurb, Lost Ark “15 distinct hero classes that offer deep combat with unique combinations of adaptable skill sets utilizing the Tripod Skill system.” The Korean release is frequently growing with new classes and areas, and the same is valid for the Amazon Games release.
“With Lost Ark, Smilegate RPG has created an incredibly deep online experience that players will return to for years to come; it is our privilege to bring this action RPG to new audiences in North America and Europe for the first time,” said Christoph Hartmann, VP, Amazon Games. “Amazon Games is committed to releasing the highest quality games for our players, whether we’re developing projects with our internal teams or publishing games from the best developers in the world, like Smilegate RPG. Lost Ark is the first of many exciting titles that Amazon Games will be publishing.”
Besides working on the upcoming MMORPG New World, which is slated for release on August 31, Amazon Games has other titles under development by the Amazon Games team in San Diego, led by industry veteran John Smedley, and the newly formed Amazon Games development studio in Montreal, founded by the core team behind the popular tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege.
