French developer Kobojo has just announced Zodiac, a beautiful multi-platform game developed in Unity in collaboration with some renowned talent. The team includes ex-Final Fantasy developers such as composer Hitoshi Sakimoto and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, who have worked in RPGs such as Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XV, among other episodes, as well as the Kingdom Hearts series. Audio and sound effects are being created by Basiscape, known for their work on Dragon’s Crown, Muramasa: the Demon Blade and Valkyria Chronicles.
Zodiac features some truly stunning 2D hand drawn artwork and is a persistent online RPG with turn-based battles and classic ideas from Japanese RPGs. Mario Rizzo, CEO of Kobojo, even said the ambition is to make this game “a Final Fantasy meets Valkyrie Profile and Dragon's Crown in a new online multiplayer experience”.
Zodiac will be shown to the public for the first time on PlayStation Vita and iOS devices during the Tokyo Game Show, with more platforms most likely to be revealed in the following months. Although no business model was revealed, Kobojo is known for the successful free-to-play RPG Mutants: Genetic Gladiators that launched on Facebook and mobile devices.
Zodiac will be released in 2015 and the official website is here.
