A couple of years ago, we were very excited for Otherland, a sci-fi MMORPG based on the acclaimed books of the same name by Tad Williams. It was the crazy mix of sci-fi, medieval and virtual worlds that mostly appealed to us, as well as the ability to collect pieces of code (eDNA) and use them to make our own creations. This highly anticipated free-to-play MMORPG was in development by RealU to be published by Gamigo, but Otherland was canceled during closed beta without much warning, apparently due to lack of funds. And so an apparently ambitious and unique MMORPG was lost, and we cried many virtual tears.
Now, Otherland is making a comeback thanks to Poland studio Drago Entertainment – the new official website is live and you can already sign up for closed beta. Good news then, but how will Otherland fare now under a different, pretty much unknown studio that still hasn't released an MMO before? The last title the studio worked on was the action MMO Grimlands and that didn't turn out too good. The Kickstarter was also a bit of a failure.
Anyway, we're psyched to see Otherland back on track and can't wait to see how it is going. So far, the only thing we have from the new studio is a very unrevealing teaser, seen below. Check the older video here to see the potential of the game.
