Call of Duty Online is now in open beta in China, as it was teased a while ago. This shooter is mostly inspired by the Modern Warfare setting and is free-to-play with the usual cash shop where you can buy or rent items. Besides competitive multiplayer modes, there's a single player mode (Hero Ops) and a new co-op mode pitting players against zombie robots.
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said: “Millions of gamers in the West have come to appreciate that white-knuckled, epic thrill-ride that only Call of Duty delivers. And now an entire new audience of gamers will experience this for the first time. We believe Call of Duty Online is going to be a game-changer for Chinese gamers.”
This free-to-play spin-off of the popular Activision series is now in development at Raven Software, transitioning from original developer Activision Shanghai, and is published in partnership with Chinese publisher Tencent, which also has the exclusive Chinese rights to Monster Hunter Online. A Call of Duty Online Western release isn't completely discarded.
