Dragon’s Dogma Online is free-to-play, no western launch planned

If you enjoyed Capcom's RPG Dragon's Dogma, then you should be fairly excited for the announcement of Dragon's Dogma Online, an upcoming MMORPG which is going to be released as a free-to-play title, according to Gematsu from a reveal in Japanese game magazine Famitsu.

Dragon's Dogma Online is in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 and is scheduled for 2015, but a Capcom representative told Eurogamer that there are no plans for a western release. Being a F2P title, it will include the traditional item micro-transactions. Dragon's Dogma Online will feature an open world that will be expanded through regular seasonal updates. The lobby will support up to 100 players and you can form parties of four players for quests, with raids supporting up to eight players. Capcom considered a subscription-based model but ultimately decided to choose free-to-play so that more players could try the game – subscriptions, eh?

Judging by the well-received Dragon's Dogma game and the Dark Arisen enhanced version, Dragon's Dogma Online could be a really interesting game. However, it looks like we, western players, will have to put it in the “can't touch this” shelf along with Borderlands Online, Call of Duty Online, Monster Hunter Online, and even the somewhat similar PS4 exclusive Deep Down, also from Capcom.
