Sandbox Interactive has detailed the new land auction system for Albion Online which replaces the previous upkeep payment, and the studio is hoping that the changes make it more fair for novice players, preventing a constant blockade of building plots and giving everyone a fair chance of owning a nice, cozy building plot of land. The game market should theoretically benefit from this and bring another level of PvP (this time the economic kind, not the sword kind) to Albion Online.
Full details on the land auction system are on this blog post, but to sum it up, the bidding should last about one week and the bids of current plot owners count double. If the winner is the current owner, he'll get a land lease extension of four or eight weeks.
Albion Online is a highly anticipated sandbox MMORPG that enters closed beta in November.
