MercurySteam has just announced that it is switching its buy-to-play online shooter Raiders of the Broken Planet to a free-to-play model on August 23, 2018. Originally released in September 2017, this shooter by the Spanish studio will be reborn as Spacelords. a “totally Free to Play gaming experience.”
Raiders of the Broken Planet was released last September with a price of $9.99 per campaign, which didn't turn out as expected. The player base is extremely low, something that is critical for a game that mostly depends of its online mode. MercurySteam is saying that Spacelords isn't just an update, but a new game built on the back of Raiders of the Broken Planet – this is a claim that will surely be put to the test by veterans of the original game. The free-to-play update to Spacelords will coincide with the fourth campaign, called Council Apocalypse. This campaign brings four new missions and a new recruitable character, Valeria.
If you previously purchased one or more Raiders of the Broken Planet campaigns, MercurySteam will reward you with some “exclusive top-quality game content”. The exact nature will be announced in the coming days.
