Japanese developer Sunsoft is working on Dark Eclipse, the first VR MOBA for PlayStation 4. This game will be free-to-play and releases on September 25, 2018.
Mixing MOBA elements with real-time strategy mechanics, Dark Eclipse features drag-and-drop controls and unusual perspectives. This surely isn't your regular MOBA, at least judging by the implementation of VR into the game. You can play this game with either the traditional Dualshock 4 controller or using the PlayStation Move controllers.
Dark Eclipse goes for a one-on-one battle where you have to overcome the rival's team comprised of three leaders. Players can pick these from the initial roster of 15 characters, each one with unique skills and abilities, and the leaders will be accompanied by supporting soldiers. Players place the units on the map directly using the drag-and-drop system, and are able to choose where to build any of the five varieties of towers. Sunsoft promises regular and free updates to Dark Eclipse, with new leaders and a constant fine-tuning of the game's balance.
“With 40-years in the business, we’ve seen many gaming trends come and go, but few have been as exhilarating as VR’s expansion and mainstream acceptance,” said Shohei Sakakibara, Producer and Project Leader at Sunsoft. “Everyone at Sunsoft is enamored with this type of quick, strategic, multiplayer gameplay, so we brought our passion for the genre and combined the best characteristics of VR, MOBAs and RTS games into Dark Eclipse, a game that’s both familiar and eye-catchingly innovative.”
Sunsoft is now celebrating its 40-year anniversary, an outstanding achievement by all means in the videogame industry. The developer is re-emerging in North America and Europe with the help of Dark Eclipse.
