Tencent is enjoying a fair bit of success with its Battle Royale game Ring of Elysium, but there is some controversy stirring. According to GameIndustry.biz, the likeness of Chinese-American YouTuber Mei Yan was used as inspiration – probably not the best word – for Ring of Elysium's character Lynn.
You can see the Twitter thread that started it all here. Below you will find a couple of photos for you to compare, with the original shot above and the in-game version below. Definitely not a coincidence.
Yan also goes through some of the similarities between her photo and Lynn, including eyes, eyebrows, collarbones, posture and the recoloring of the hair. Yan adds that the game trailer that featured Lynn was removed by Tencent from YouTube.
Apparently, there is an official investigation at Tencent about this subject, with a statement to be issued later. According to the same Reddit thread, Lynn seems to have been removed from the game.
hey twitter it's been a while but i just wanted to share this here too. i found out recently that the game Ring of Elysium @roe_tencent by the company Tecent stole an image of me from several years ago, photoshopped it and used it in their game for their character Lynn (cont) pic.twitter.com/mYGaxcQ9bK
