Heroes of Newerth is about to enter maintenance mode, as developer Frostburn announced that the latest patch is also going to be the last major update for this MOBA.
The patch notes seem to work as a sort of farewell to players, with things such as “At this moment in time, patch 4.7.3 is planned to be the final patch that contains major content and major changes”, or “Tributes to certain staff members have been put into some item flavour tooltips to thank them for all their hard work throughout the game!”
If that's not a goodbye, I don't know what is!
Heroes of Newerth was released in 2010 by S2 Games and switched to free-to-play in 2011. In 2015, S2 Games handed development over to Frostburn, as the studio was busy with Strife, its “second generation MOBA”. Allegedly, S2 Games has silently shut down in 2018.
