Might and Magic Heroes: Era of Chaos pre-registration opens

Ubisoft is taking another shot at the Might and Magic series with an upcoming mobile RPG called Might and Magic Heroes: Era of Chaos. While the series' legacy deserved a fully-fledged strategy RPG, we're being treated to a mobile game that is likely to bring the predatory monetization techniques that we're used to see.

Might and Magic Heroes: Era of Chaos is a game that takes you back to Erathia, the land of Might and Magic Heroes 3. You have a massive world to explore, armies to command in real-time battles and sieges, and unique heroes from the series.

There is no official mention to a gacha system, but most mobile games where you have to “collect and lead heroes” come with this dreaded feature, so Might and Magic Heroes: Era of Chaos is unlikely to be an exception. There are over 40 troops and creatures to collect, train, and upgrade, ultimately to use in a battlefield that looks similar to the ones seen in previous chapters of the series, hopefully providing some tactical depth to the game.

The art style is cartoonish, something that isn't going to please every fan of the series. It has to be said that it is colorful, but it's a far cry from the gritty dark fantasy ambiance of previous main entries in the Might and Magic Heroes franchise.

A few years ago, Ubisoft made a strong bet on free-to-play with the release of free PC games such as EndWar Online, Ghost Recon Phantoms, The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot (a new game was just released for mobile), and Might and Magic Duel of Champions. It seems to be making a comeback with many mobile games, but there is also the futurist arena sports title Roller Champions.
