Amazon Game Studios is about to unleash its first game ever. After the cancelation of sports MOBA Breakaway in 2018 and the constant news surrounding MMORPG New World, it appears that PvPvE shooter Crucible is reaching the finish line first. This team-based third-person shooter, which we can simply call a battle royale because it is one, is hitting Steam on May 20, 2020. Amazon's Crucible is releasing as a free-to-play game, and the same was planned for Breakaway – of Amazon's lineup, only New World seems to be a premium game.
In Crucible, you choose your hunter from a selection of nearly a dozen characters and dive into a wild and dangerous planet. If the premise sounds similar to Yager's The Cycle, that's because it is. It's a shooter where you face the fauna of the planet as you grow your hunter's abilities, completing short tasks that will eventually pit you against other players. Collecting Essence from the fallen AI and human enemies will make you stronger.

There are three Crucible game modes at launch: Heart of the Hives, Harvester Command, and Alpha Hunters. In Alpha Hunters, eight teams of two hunters face off to see who is the last team standing, in traditional battle royale style, including a shrinking circle. Harvester Command is an 8v8 mode where each one of the two teams strives to capture and secure harvesters spread across the map, with the goal of reaching the Essence quota. Finally, Heart of the Hives is a 4v4 mode where each team battles bosses and aims to capture three Hive hearts, while contending with the rival team along the way.
The player count seems to be a bit lower than the standard for battle royale games, but Crucible is being introduced as a team-based PvP action shooter, so we'll let that one slip.
