Pokémon Unite is a MOBA, but what is a MOBA anyway? This is the acronym for multiplayer online battle arena, used to designate a genre of game that became incredibly successful after the release of League of Legends. While Riot Games' title wasn't the first game of its genre, it was definitely the one that brought it worldwide fame and spawned countless clones. The ones that remain popular to this day are Dota 2 and SMITE, but hundreds and hundreds of other games fell by the wayside, not always due to lack of quality, but because the market became saturated.
A MOBA is a game where each player chooses and controls a character, usually in 5-on-5 team battles on an isometric map. This map is commonly comprised of three lanes (top, middle, and bottom), and the most usual victory condition is to destroy the opponents' main structure.
Pokémon Unite is a 5v5 MOBA, which means that you pick a Pokémon character at the start and team up with other four players to take on the enemy team.
