With the recent release and the endless stream of player feedback, miHoYo is hard at work on Genshin Impact. New patches are released to fix various issues, but every online game seems to suffer from a rough start nowadays. One of the most common issues right now is the Genshin Impact “Failed to Check For Updates” error. We have looked around and discovered a few tips to fix this error.

Contrary to some other Genshin Impact error codes that are likely exclusive to the PC version, such as error code 31-4302 and error code 9203, this one seems to happen across all platforms. This means that it shows up on PC, PS4, Android, and iOS.

Your first move should be to restart the computer. If this doesn't work, exit the game and relaunch it via the executable file, not the launcher. For this, go to the Genshin Impact installation folder, open the Games folder and run the exe file. You can also try to run the launcher from this folder, an action that has magically solved the issue for some players – just how different this is from running the desktop shortcut is anyone's guess.

No luck? Then you have to try to update the game through different means. Once again in the Genshin Impact installation folder, open the updateProgram folder and manually run the Update file. If nothing works and you don't want to wait, just in case it is an issue caused by heavy influx of players, your last resort is to reinstall the game from scratch.
