Magia: Charma Saga is a new IP from Nexon, developed by Super Acid. While this is a game for mobile devices, it features some of the most stunning 2D artwork that I've ever seen – that is one of the virtues of mobile games, to push artists into creating some truly impressive 2D characters and scenarios.
But Magia: Charma Saga has a lot more going for it. For once, it's not one of those auto-battle games; instead, you have to pick one of three characters (Battle Mage Caleera, Spirit Magician Leta Vinis and Magic Swordsman Aiden Rutelan, with more to come soon, beginning with the Guardian Knight) and battle your way through several lush side-scrolling areas. You have skills, combos, dashes and everything that you need for some proper action gameplay. Your Spirit Beast Lux follows you around, and you can transform it into other creatures such as an Owl.
Auto-battle only comes into play after you have completed a stage, in case you want to farm some extra XP. However, I'd recommend going for Bounty missions instead, as these can be completed without intervention (around 30 minutes) or you can jump in and do it in a few minutes.
Nonetheless, Magia: Charma Saga still includes some of the mobile gaming staples, such as combat power (which you can increase by equipping better gear, enhancing and refining the items), and Gacha (only for items, not characters). Grinding is a necessity, but the lush visuals and incredibly smooth combat absolutely make up for it – discovering the next boss is also a huge motivation. So far, the story also seems interesting, instead of the usual afterthought that is common in mobile games.
Magia: Charma Saga has soft-launched in five countries (Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, and Philippines) and PvP is coming with further updates. A worldwide release is planned for 2019 and I'm willing to bet that the game will be a success.
