Dungeon Fighter Overkill, also known as Dungeon & Fighter Overkill, is one of several new games based on the original beat'em up. Following one of the most known and profitable online games in the entire world, Dungeon Fighter Online, this new game is going to take the familiar gameplay from the 2D side-scrolling action MMORPG and give it a new lick of paint, using the power of Unreal Engine 4 to deliver a 3D update that will please both fans and newcomers alike.

Dungeon and Fighter Overkill is not to be confused with Neople's other game from the Dungeon Fighter IP, Project BBQ, which was until recently being called Dungeon Fighter Online 3D. There's another DFO game in development as well, a one-on-one beat'em up title called Dungeon Fighter Duel by genre experts Arc System Works.

But back to Dungeon Fighter Overkill, which seems to work both as a remake and as a sequel to the original PC game. The official blurb says that it offers “an alternative perspective on Nexon's blockbuster Dungeon Fighter franchise,” so it veers more into spin-off terrain. Also a PC exclusive at the time of the announcement, this next-generation RPG takes on classes and NPCs from the original and upgrades for the new game, while staying true to the side-scrolling action that made the first game such a success. The Priest, Fighter, Slayer, and Gunner classes are just a few that can be spotted in the first teaser trailers for the game.

While Neople's Overkill Studio is promising to ramp up the action for this new installment, we'll have to see if the game successfully ditches the  somewhat outdated fighting mechanics of the original game and introduces new and more exciting ways of taking out your opponents.

The Dungeon Fighter Overkill release date remains a mystery, but we're settling for late 2022 or 2023 until official info arrives.
