Hyper Scape is Ubisoft's entry in the battle royale genre. Unbeknownst to many, this is going to be the studio's first game in the genre. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, creators of the hugely successful Rainbow Six Siege, Hyper Scape is a free-to-play sci-fi first-person shooter with deep Twitch integration – chat is going to directly affect some of the game's events, and it is being created with streamers and players in mind.
HyperScape was under development with the codename Prisma Dimensions and PC is the primary platform, with a release date set for 2020. However, console versions are expected to launch sometime later and feature cross-platform play.
In Hyper Scape, you are placed in the districts of Neo Arcadia, a virtual city featuring some impressive landmarks. Verticality plays a big role in this first-person shooter, as you soar the skies and hit your enemies from above. Shoot your rivals on the streets, interiors, and rooftops.
Ubisoft has revealed 10 champions of Hyper Scape, a roster that is bound to grow in the coming months. Each one comes with a unique set of skills, or hacks as they are called, such as teleport, heal, wall, armor, reveal, slam, and more.
Contrary to other battle royale games, in Hyper Scape you have two ways of winning the match. You can fight to be the last one standing, or you can grab the crown that appears near the end of the match and keep it under possession for long enough, so that you (and your squad, in squad mode) can claim victory.
The Crowncast Twitch extension makes for some deep Twitch integration. Viewers are capable of affecting the outcome of the matches by voting in real-time, impacting gameplay in surprising ways. They can spawn health kits, apply low gravity effects, and other features that change the way that the game is played.
Hyper Scape is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms, with a release date planned for 2020.
