The Ni No Kuni franchise is composed of single-player RPGs, with the last two releases – Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom – being praised for their visuals and emotional soundtrack. However, there's another release planned for 2021 and this one is going to be somewhat different from the previous games. Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is that game and it is as magical as the aforementioned works. So, in order to avoid the languishing question that many players had when Genshin Impact released, we're going to clear that up: is Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds an MMORPG, cooperative online RPG, or plain and simple another single-player entry in the series?
Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds: MMORPG or Not?
The answer to this question is simple, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds is indeed an MMORPG. It was introduced as such by developer Netmarble, who did mention that you can go on fantastic adventures with your friends. If the sight of other players roaming around in different regions, including the kingdom, isn't enough to convince you, some of the features included in the game tick all the boxes of a fully-fledged MMORPG.
Take world bosses, for instance, one of the most popular mechanics of any MMO, albeit not limited to those. Or the social hub kingdom, which you develop and customize alongside your guild friends, ultimately entering into a battle against other kingdoms with the goal of becoming the capital city and having authority over some events.
The team behind Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds already has experience developing MMORPGs. The core part of the team has worked on Lineage 2: Revolution, and both games are powered by Unreal Engine 4, so despite the pronounced artistic discrepancies, they are already used to this engine.
Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds is a game that you should keep an eye out for, fan of the series or not. The global release is expected to happen during 2021.
