After several years of waiting and incertitude, Phantasy Star Online 2 is finally coming to North America. Sega certainly took its sweet time, but English players are actually going to play this anime MMORPG in an official format, instead of infiltrating the Japanese servers as they used to do. Microsoft secured the deal to launch the game first on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs during 2020, but what is the Phantasy Star Online 2 release date?
Phantasy Star Online 2 Release Date and Download
Phantasy Star Online 2 has been around in Japan since 2012 and the western release isn't going to please all fans. Instead of going for a launch in various territories, Sega only has plans for a Phantasy Star Online 2 North America release, with an European launch yet to be confirmed.
The Phantasy Star Online 2 download should be available during 2020 for every player in the United States and Canada, since the game remains free-to-play. However, the Xbox One version is likely going to launch ahead of its PC counterpart, with the closed beta starting on February 7, 2020. The PC version was delayed for a release later in 2020, and there is no confirmation of a closed beta for this version. In April 2020, Sega revealed that the PC release date is late May 2020. The final PC launch date reveal was made on May 19, with the game appearing in North American Windows 10 PCs on May 27, 2020.
Here is everything you need to know about the Phantasy Star Online 2 release date in North America:
- Xbox One closed beta: February 7, 2020 – February 8, 2020
- Xbox One open beta: March 17, 2020
- Xbox One official launch: April 14, 2020
- PC Windows 10 official launch (North America): May 27, 2020
- PC Steam official launch: August 5, 2020
While the decision to make separate PSO2 releases isn't making much to please the community, there is no escaping this fact. Players chosen for the Xbox One closed beta will be able to pre-load the game starting February 3, 2020, but the client will be used for the subsequent open beta as well, bar the necessary update.
