Akaneiro: McGee’s F2P Little Red Riding Hood in Japan

American McGee’s studio, Spicy Horse, has a new free-to-play game in the making. The renowned game designer is working on Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, a PC action RPG he describes as a multiplayer dungeon crawler that is “very true to the Japanese style.”

Akaneiro is based on the Little Red Riding Hood tale and as with other Spicy Horse games, is a wild interpretation of the tale. Mixing the popular fairytale with a Japanese folklore setting, the game offers Diablo-style gameplay in a hand-painted world that looks somewhat like Okami’s. The player is a demon hunter from the Order of Akane, fighting ghostly creatures and looting his way through a fully randomized item system.
