The recent release of Genshin Impact 2.0 update, The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia brought the much anticipated third major city Inazuma. With the grand plan for Teyvat consisting of seven major cities, there is a lot to look forward to, but the open world action RPG already includes an astonishing amount of content. Now, in a new report straight from miHoYo's CEO, we know that the studio is planning to have all Genshin Impact regions released by 2025.
This revelation is at odds with the rumors of having Genshin Impact running for about 12 years. Or perhaps not, since the cities are just one part of the vast content that the game gets every few weeks. This means that Genshin Impact could end its Teyvat story arc in four years, but new content could expand it into other storylines and regions that aren't exactly major cities, but points of interest nonetheless.

But back to miHoYo's CEO Cai Haoyu and his statement about the Genshin Impact city update roadmap: “[…] would like to have all seven regions of Teyvat released by the next four years.” He said this in a conference during GDC 2021, as reported by Famitsu and translated by Dualshockers.
We already know in which order the cities will release thanks to the Teyvat story trailer released right at the time of Genshin Impact's launch. So, that would make the Genshin Impact city update roadmap something like this:
- First city: Mondstadt (Anemo / Wind Element)
- Second city: Liyue Harbor (Geo / Earth Element)
- Third city: Inazuma (Electro / Lightning Element)
- Fourth city: Sumeru (Dendro / Wood Element)
- Fifth city: Fontaine (Hydro / Water Element)
- Sixth city: Natlan (Pyro / Fire Element)
- Seventh city: Snezhnaya (Cryo / Ice Element)
We also have other regions such as Khaen’riah to figure out, much like what happens with Dragonspine and The Chasm.
As for the actual Genshin Impact major city release schedule, here's what seems to be the plan. Sumeru and the Dendro element will release in 2022, Fontaine launches during 2023 with the Hydro element, Natlan and its Fire element is coming in 2024, and 2025 will mark the grand finale (of major city releases, at least) with Snezhnaya and its Cryo innings.
Naturally, this update roadmap is subject to change, but it is what you should expect for now.
