NCsoft has announced that the Blade & Soul Unreal Engine 4 upgrade release is happening this summer. The long-awaited update that includes a full engine switch is coming to western servers in just a few months, after quite some time of speculation and uncertainty.
The update will improve Blade & Soul‘s visuals, using the power of Unreal Engine 4 to display better-looking environments and characters. Other aspects that should be improved with the UE4 update is lag reduction and smaller loading times. Hopefully, performance will be on par as well, since this was the main criticism hitting the original Frontier World release in Korea. But more on this later.

Blade & Soul players don't have to worry about their progression, because it will be kept once the update goes live.
But there is more coming to NCsoft's fantasy martial arts epic during 2021 besides the Blade & Soul Unreal Engine 4 release. A new character class is expected later this year, as well as third specializations for existing classes, new dungeons, and new systems.
And now a bit of an update on the Blade & Soul Unreal Engine upgrade. NCsoft decided to shut down the Frontier World server in Korea, but it is working on the new version that we discuss above, which is planned for summer 2021. Frontier World was considered a first attempt at using Unreal Engine 4 with Blade & Soul, and hopefully the second try will be for good.
