Civilization Online is going to enter closed beta on May 27 through June 1. This is the upcoming game from XLGames, makers of the sandbox MMORPG ArcheAge that will be published in the West by Trion Worlds as a free-to-play game. Civilization Online runs on the CryEngine but unfortunately is only targeted at the Asian market at the moment.
While Civilization Online keeps some of the features from the popular strategy series created by Sid Meier, it takes a simpler approach and places players closer to the action. At release players will be able to choose from 4 civilizations: China, Rome, Egypt and Aztec.
