Nexon has announced the official DNF Duel global release date, putting to rest the concerns of many fans of the upcoming one-on-one fighting game inspired by the Dungeon Fighter Online franchise. Known as Dungeon&Fighter in the original Korean release, this series is growing its reach with various new games, including this competitor to the likes of the Street Fighter and Tekken franchises.
DNF Duel is releasing worldwide on June 28, 2022 for PC (Steam) and consoles (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5). Players from North America, Europe, Korea, and Japan will be able to play the final version, after an open beta test in December 2021.
DNF Duel is under development by the creators of the series, Neople, in collaboration with Arc System Works, the studio behind acclaimed fighting game series such as Guilty Gear series and BlazBlue. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, DNF Duel features stunning anime graphics that faithfully recreate the popular characters of the original side-scrolling MMORPG.
Arc System Works is hosting the ARC WORLD TOUR 2022 competition and DNF Duel is one of the eSports games of the official selection. This event is sponsored by Nexon Korea and Sony Interactive Entertainment America.
There's no word on the DNF Duel business model so far. Although Nexon is known for adopting the free-to-play monetization system, the involvement of Arc System Works may point in the other direction. We'll have to wait and see.
