Are you ready to get your mind blown? You surely remember World of Dragon Nest, the upcoming anime MMORPG for mobile devices that we have been covering a lot recently. The closed beta runs from August 1 through August 7 in SEA countries, so it seems to be on the right track.
But – and this is where things get complicated – there is a real Dragon Nest 2 in development. No, not that Dragon Nest 2: Legend, that sequel is long gone and forgotten. The new Dragon Nest 2 is in development for China, with Tencent Games on publishing duties. As it should be expected, it is another game for mobile devices – no love for the PC anymore, it seems.
But wait, there's more! Here is where everything gets even more complicated: while World of Dragon Nest is being developed by Eyedentity, the creators of the original Dragon Nest game for PC, Dragon Nest 2 is under development at Shengqu Games, former designation of Shanda Games. So, the “real sequel” (Dragon Nest 2) is being developed by an exterior studio, while the spin-off (World of Dragon Nest) is the work of the original creators of the series.
Is your brain hurting yet? Which one of these do you prefer? Personally, I'm digging the graphics of Dragon Nest 2 more than those of World of Dragon Nest, but either game doesn't seem to live up to today's standards. I'm not asking for Black Desert Online quality from any of the new mobile MMORPGs, but mobile shouldn't be an excuse for outdated graphics anymore. As an example, Black Desert Mobile looks amazing, so it's not a matter of limitations, but of lack of skill or resources.
That's the end of my rant. Now you know that there's a fair share of Dragon Nest games coming, although none of them is officially announced for North America or Europe. We'll keep on top of this and report if another Dragon Nest game pops up in the meantime – hey, Dragon Nest Royale or Dragon Nest Auto Chess could be a thing, who knows?
