Epic Games and Loong announce ambitious sandbox MMO Project SU

Epic Games and Loong Entertainment are co-developing mobile sandbox game Project SU using Unreal Engine 4. Project SU uses several advanced technologies (global illumination, dynamic lighting, bloom, GPU particle effects and PBR rendering) to help bring the graphic fidelity to a standard close to the one seen on AAA PC games.

Project SU was just unveiled at San Francisco's Game Developers Conference 2019 and features an open world where freedom of movement is key. The story is adapted from a popular best-selling novel and wouldn't look out of place in a Final Fantasy game. It tells us of an endless war between humans, half-bloods and Dragons, while mixing elements from Western, Japanese and Chinese cultures sprinkled with fantasy elements.

The cosmopolitan setting includes nightclubs and bars where to vent off steam, and you can even participate in car races. The sandbox aspect should allow you to freely explore the environment and there is a “realistic social ecology” in place, with each NPC being gifted with high intelligence and reacting in a personalized way to each player.

The profession system also plays a huge part. You can climb your way to the top, or in the given example, cook your way to the top. Starting as a kitchen waiter, you can progress to owning your own kitchen and end up becoming a Michelin 3-star chef. Sounds delicious!
