Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode will be released free for everyone

Fortnite’s Battle Royale

Epic Games seems determined in taking a slice of the pie that Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is currently eating all by himself. The upcoming Battle Royale mode for Fortnite, which was announced earlier this month is going to be free when it launches on September 26. Yes, free, as in everyone will be able to play it, either on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One – no need to purchase a Founder's Pack.

Fortnite’s Battle Royale is pretty much its little own free-to-play game: you can download it for free on the Epic Games PC launcher, PlayStation Store or Xbox Store. The developers promise that this 100-player PvP mode will be fair and that they won't “sell items that give a competitive advantage. At some point in the future we will sell other things including cosmetics or compendium-like content.”

This is a very clever move to bring in some extra players to Fortnite before the official free-to-play launch, which is planned for 2018. In a few days, the Battle Royale genre is going to have a new contender, Fortnite's… erm… Battle Royale.
