Tactical game Hand of the Gods could be on its last legs

It seems like Hand of the Gods could be going nowhere fast. This turn-based tactical game based on SMITE apparently failed to grab a valuable player base, and judging by the current numbers, it's worse than I thought. I mean, less than 50 peak players during the last month tells a lot about any game, even if Hi-Rez has its own separate launcher, which shouldn't add up to a much larger number.

Hi-Rez President Stewart Chisam actually revealed that the team pretty much gave up on the game with this tweet:

“No major content updates” and “servers staying up as long as we have enough people wanting to play” sound like admission of defeat. Hand of the Gods is probably going the same way that Evolve did when Turtle Rock Studios stopped supporting the game, until it finally closes.
