There aren't many free-to-play turn-based games, so hopefully Herogrinder: Tactical Combat Arenas will fill that gap. Even good games like Atlas Reactor ended being shut down, probably a sign that there isn't a great demand for the genre.
However, developer Modern is giving it a shot with the upcoming release of Herogrinder. The premise speaks of a game show of the 24th century where the contestants are customized bioroid soldiers. Just as it happened with Atlas Reactor, the matches are played in simultaneous turns, which means that you don't have to wait for the other players to make their move.
The outcome of the match is based on each character's conditions, including initiative, skillset, environment, awareness, and many more.
Bioroids come in three sizes and are highly customizable, with over 500 ability enhancements to choose from as they level up. There are hundreds of ranged and melee weapons, as well as gear, armor and shields.
There are several game modes in Herogrinder: 1v1, 1v1v1, 2v2 co-op, 4v4 co-op, and 10-player deathmatch.
There is a welcome option to create your own arenas with the Arena Creator Tool. You can share your creation with the community and the best arenas may even make it into the game.
Herogrinder: Tactical Combat Arenas still has no release date, but you can check the game's progress on its Steam page.
