The much rumored and desired League of Legends MMORPG was confirmed today. Riot Games' VP of IP and Entertainment Greg Street, most commonly known as Ghostcrawler, relayed the news on Twitter. This is another League of Legends project among the many that Riot is working on, but it is probably the most desired by fans of the classic MOBA game.
Greg teased the announcement by saying the following:
“I have news! My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need! Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create. PS We’re hiring.”
The “massive” bit is what made many players suspicious of the genre, with confirmation coming soon after, once again by Greg: “It is an MMO.”
This was followed by a chain of tweets that you can read below. Riot is hiring many developers “with MMO experience.” However, he also asks people to be patient, because every aspect of this project is going to take time.
No matter what, the excitement surrounding the League of Legends MMORPG is going to start building from now on. If there's a game that could rival the impact that World of Warcraft had on the genre, it could be this one; furthermore, Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street worked for Blizzard Entertainment as Lead Systems Designer on World of Warcraft, so there's that.
A follow up about hiring for the new project. Yes, we are serious about hiring. These kind of games take a lot of developers. Like any R&D project we will start small, but we will grow. The best way to apply is to visit the Riot Games website. (1/3)
