Magic Legends Release Date | When is the Magic the Gathering MMO releasing?

Magic Legends Release Date

After a few years in complete secrecy, Perfect World and Cryptic Studios have finally revealed Magic: Legends. The upcoming free-to-play action MMORPG based on the popular Magic: The Gathering franchise is beginning to show itself, to the joy of millions of fans of the franchise. With the recent official announcement, we have learned a thing or two about the Magic Legends release date.

Magic Legends Release Date | When is the Magic Legends beta?

First, a bit of context. Magic Legends is the new free-to-play action MMORPG from Cryptic Studios. The makers of Champions Online, Star Trek Online, and Neverwinter have a great track record and the expectations for this new game are naturally through the roof.

A Magic Legends beta is scheduled for spring 2020 and the target platforms are PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Cryptic revealed the first Magic Legends gameplay in January 2020 and said that the Magic Legends release date is planned for sometime during 2020 on PC, and 2021 on PS4 and Xbox One. However, it turned out that this wasn't to be.

Magic Legends Release date

Here is the Magic Legends release date info, including beta tests:

  • Closed beta begins in spring 2020.
  • Magic Legends open beta date: March 23, 2021 on PC (ARC platform)
  • Official Magic Legends release date for PC, PS4, and Xbox One: TBA 2021

So, by all purposes, the Magic Legends release date on PC is March 23, 2021, since many live-service games may be in open beta for years. Console releases will follow later, as PWE puts the final touches on them.

The initial details on Magic: Legends were somewhat slim, but we do know that it is an action RPG in the style of Lost Ark and Path of Exile, and that you will be diving into the exciting multiverse of Magic: The Gathering, creating and customizing a daring spellcaster Planeswalker.

According to the official info, you can choose from five Magic Legends classes, but this comes with a nice twist. It looks like you won't be stuck with one for the entirety of the campaign, as it is mentioned that in Magic Legends you can switch between the five classes as you go. This sounds like a system similar to Skyforge, but we're yet to know if you have to unlock the classes, or if they are available from the start.

You can cross the planes alone or with the help of two other Planeswalkers, and the real-time action combat will be mostly spell-based. You have to strategically select the spells to cast as they are drawn at random.

Cryptic is expected to deliver an in-depth character creation system, along with the traditional MMORPG staples such as side-quests, tons of skills, freedom to choose your own path, and hopefully an evolved combat system.
