In a stealth announcement, Electronic Arts has revealed that Plants vs Zombies 3 is available in pre-alpha. However, the Google Play link seems to be down at the time of writing, which could mean one of two things – they have encountered some problems with the game, or EA considers that they have enough players for now and removed the game from the listings.
Plants vs. Zombies 3 is being developed by the same studio that created the series, PopCap Games. There is absolutely no juicy info on this game, not even a single screenshot to see what kind of graphical evolution it shows when compared to the previous games. A PC version isn't mentioned anywhere, so Plants vs. Zombies 3 is expected to hit Android and iOS devices only, or at least during the initial release.
The Plants vs. Zombies 3 pre-alpha is free-to-play, but so should be the final release as well. The pre-alpha won't include any microtransactions, but these will surely be deployed later on.
Plants vs. Zombies is the kind of series that everyone loves to hate, but it's a great way to kill some time while commuting or with your youngest ones. You could surely do a lot worse than this, although I'm curious to see if Plants vs. Zombies 3 is going to be a case of bigger and better, or if it will bring some drastic changes to the gameplay.
Now that I'm thinking about it, isn't a Plants vs. Zombies movie in the works? As crazy as it sounds, it may turn out to be good if the people involved are willing to pour their hearts into it. It only takes a look at Pokémon Detective Pikachu to see how a good video game movie is made and how much profit it can bring.
