A new contestant is coming to Quake Champions. Athena is her name and she is not alone; the upcoming September update also brings a new map and Arcade Mode games.
Athena is an extremely fast Champion and can traverse the arenas in the blink of an eye thanks to her trusty grappling hook. She uses this to get a considerable advantage when verticality is at play, but also to make for a quick escape if things aren't going her way. Athena will be playable in the Public Test Server in mid-September.
Older Quake fans will also be happily surprised with the new map, called Longest Yard. This is in fact a familiar arena, having originally featured in Quake 3 Arena and known as ‘Q3DM17' by those who really know their stuff. As you can see by the trailer below, this is a dangerous place, a death trap where players will have to watch their feet or plunge to their deaths every few seconds.
Our final mention goes to the Arcade Mode games, which are featured in the ‘Play Now’ screen and will rotate on a regular basis. With names such as Hot Rockets, Mystery Champion, Team Instagib and Unholy Trinity, these variations are supposed to bring some fun and diversity to Quake Champions.
