No more crying over spilt milk at Boss Key Productions, as the studio quickly moves on from LawBreakers' failure and on to the hottest bandwagon nowadays: Battle Royale.
But hang in there, don't go away yet! The studio's new “passion project”, as they called it, is titled Radical Heights and for starters, will be free-to-play when it launches:
“Radical Heights has been built from the ground up with Free to Play in mind, and we plan to keep it that way post Early Access as well.”
Let's hope they don't change their minds like it happened with LawBreakers, right? This could also be telling that Nexon wasn't very interested in pushing for a free-to-play switch with LawBreakers, as Boss Key seems proud to say that they are “creating and publishing the game entirely by ourselves.”
The current Early Access version, which begins tomorrow, was in development for five months and should bring an interesting spin to the somewhat tired Battle Royale genre, with its garish colors and an irreverent 1980's aesthetic that highly contrasts with the actual setting – a game show set in 2023 where contestants fight for fame and prizes, drive-by on BMX bikes and take cash out of ATM machines to purchase weapons for the next game. Visually speaking, Radical Heights seems closer to Fortnite than to any other Battle Royale game.
It all sounds a bit wacky and it could eventually be a lot of fun. Boss Key is planning an entire year of Early Access for Radical Heights, and the version that will be available tomorrow will feature the core gameplay experience, but you should expect placeholder models and audio here and there.
You can purchase a Radical Heights Founder's Pack starting tomorrow for $14.99, which includes some in-game cash, a permanent 10% in-game cash boost on all cash and prizes, over 20 pieces of exclusive character cosmetics inspired by the action films of the 80’s (if you want to look like Rambo), and 1000 Rad Gems to buy gear in the Prize room.
