The third Torchlight Frontiers class has just been revealed and wow, you're in for quite a surprise. Possibly one of the most original, out-of-the-box classes ever created for an MMO, the Railmaster is joining the Dusk Mage and Forged in Torchlight Frontiers.
The Railmaster: Conductor of Pain (has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?) is a mustached guy with a huge hammer. It's uncertain at this point, but it is likely that this is a gender-locked class. But the big twist that comes with the Railmaster is that he brings his faithful train everywhere he goes – public areas or private dungeons, the train is there, merrily going where the train tracks allow it to go. It's up to you to lay down the tracks and watch as the train turret shoots and the cannon fires at the enemies right next to you.
The original Railmaster concept didn't include this track concept, instead requiring the player to pick up the train and deploy it wherever he wanted it to shoot. It was in fact more of a stationary turret than a train and this made the class too similar to an Engineer class, and consequently on the verge of not seeing further development. Now, you can lay down tracks and even choose the kind of carriages that you want to, opening up an enticing layer of mixing and matching.
Oddly enough, Echtra Games revealed that the inspiration for the rough look of the Railmaster derives from the battle priests from the Warhammer universe.
I'll close this post by mentioning some of the Railmaster's skills. Add Track is self-explanatory, as this is what will make your train follow you. Ghost Train summons the spirit of an ancient train that deals damage to anyone in front of it. Pound is a skill for the Railmaster himself, pounding the Railhammer on the ground dealing damage in an AoE style.
You can read more about the lore and design process of the Railmaster class in the official Torchlight Frontiers post. The release is planned for update 5, which should land on April 23.
