Bohemia Interactive is working on Vigor, a Xbox One exclusive described as a shoot ‘n' loot game where you must survive in a post-war Norway and build your shelter. Shelter from what, you ask? Other humans, obviously, in battles for 8 to 16 players.
When it was announced at E3 2018, Vigor seemed like an interesting prospect, but we dismissed it on the basis that it was unlikely to be free-to-play. As it turns out, this Unreal Engine 4-powered game from the makers of the ARMA series (and Argo as well, but that game is now only running on unofficial servers) will be free-to-play when it releases in February 2019. Until then, you can purchase the Founder's Pack for $ 19.99 / € 19.99. Of course, the FAQ promises that there will be no pay-to-win, so if you want to get that ultra-rare wooden crate, you have to go out and fight for it.
Vigor is likely to remain an Xbox One exclusive, so don't expect it to come to PC and PS4 anytime soon. Bohemia says that working with Xbox Game Preview will allow the team to focus on one platform and provide the best experience possible, gathering invaluable feedback from the community. I'm not quite sure how this is any different from a PC or PS4 release, but they probably know it better than me.
Oh, and DayZ is still in alpha and developed by a different team. It is expected to exit Early Access before the end of 2018, however – and it's about time.
