MicroVolts is a MMOTPS game where players get to control toys that are armed to the teeth and ready for battle in fun arenas. This is a free MMO game that can be compared to Team Fortress 2 or Battlefield Heroes, with very colorful cartoon graphics and a crisp look that helps the action flow. It doesn’t need high system requirements so that every player with a medium PC is able to enjoy it. The purpose of this game is fast and fun action, without any complications, and it succeeds.

There’s no real story behind the happenings in MicroVolts, and obviously no need for such. The premise tells us about toys at war that started years ago in the backyard of every house in the world. There are rumours that the battles began because of the creation of four original limited edition figures, named MicroVolts. The prototyples – and playable characters – are Naomi, Knox, Pandora and C.H.I.P., which were then joined by slightly modified versions, with different clothes. Now, they’re at war for precious battery resources and supremacy.

It’s a simple premise that also introduces us to one of the shortcomings of the game – there are only four characters available at launch, although more are expected along the line. Each toy possesses different skills, but they can use the same weapons. At the start, the player is able to choose between Knox and Naomi, but has to pay for C.H.I.P. or Pandora with in-game currency. Toys are controlled using a familiar combination of mouse and keyboard.

MicroVolts is a funny arena combat game with an obvious downside, which is the repetitive use of the characters, with thousands of players controlling nearly the same looking toy. But in the end, it’s a compelling game and one that is very addictive and capable of providing as much fun as Metal Assault (a free 2D shooter) or the aforementioned Battlefield Heroes.
