News:
ELOA begins initial beta test
The isometric hack and slash MMORPG ELOA is now in a short initial test that is open to all players. Webzen is bringing ELOA: Elite Lord of Alliance to North America and Europe, with the initial beta lasting for one week and with a server wipe after it ends. The beta level cap is 25 and there are five classes and four races available to play. PvP modes include 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3 and 4vs4. Webzen says that there shouldn’t be a long delay before this Diablo-like MMO game enters open beta.
TERA gets The Lost Isle update with new starting area and revamped character creation
TERA’s latest update The Lost Isle added quite a few significant things, most of all the new starting area Stepstone Isle and revamped character creation. The Stepstone Isle has an all-new story for all level 1 characters, as well as a more accelerated path to level 11. The character creation and character selection screen were revamped and there’s also a Returning Hero option to help level 58-65 characters that have not logged in for at least a month get back into the action seamlessly. The Brawler class should be one of the next updates, so stay tuned for more TERA goodness.
Dragomon Hunter includes original Japanese voice talent
Dragomon Hunter is going to feature localized voiceover in English and French, but is also keeping the star-studded cast of original Japanese talent. This is great news for those that prefer to play a game with the original voice talent, and we know there are plenty of you out there. The cast includes actors from Sword Art Online, Bleach, Naruto and more popular anime shows. Dragomon Hunter entered closed beta on October 15.
Bethesda's Battlecry could be in trouble
Bethesda’s Battlecry isn’t looking too sharp at the moment. It seems that the studio isn’t happy with how the game is turning out so far. The free-to-play action game Battlecry could be in trouble, as Bethesda admitted that it isn’t meeting the objectives the studio had for it. There’s some evaluation going on and it’s probably going to take some time before we see something interesting about this game. Some players who already tried the game mentioned the lackluster combat as one of its major flaws, so having an action game with such an issue means trouble.
PlanetSide 2 is “really struggling”
PlanetSide 2 is struggling right now, the executive creative director has revealed in a very surprising statement. Daybreak’s Jens Andersen made this statement during a Reddit AMA and didn’t hide the fact that it’s both the PC and PS4 versions of the MMO shooter PlanetSide 2 that are in trouble. The studio is looking at ways to change this in the short term, how to retain people and find ways to generate revenue to support the team. PlanetSide 2 is one of the very few true MMOFPSs and it’s not particularly easy to get into, something that could be one of its biggest problems.
‘Find the Game’ Quiz
This game is a so-called second generation MOBA from a studio that already had one mildly successful MOBA in its catalog. While it’s a fairly polished and compelling game, it seems to be having a hard time convincing Dota 2 and LoL players that they should move on to it. The first one to write the answer in the comments will see his name featured in the next Free to Play Unlimited episode.
Most Wanted: Blade & Soul
Blade and Soul is finally coming and it definitely took its time. NCsoft’s martial arts epic is already under testing and we managed to get into the alpha.
While the first of five closed beta weekends only begins on October 30, Blade and Soul is already imminently playable and we got to see just that. It’s still the game that we know and love from the original Korean version and the unique art style has passed the test of time really well, without hints of showing any kind of aging. It looks like its own game and has a deep focus on storyline with plenty of cutscenes, something that is unusual for most MMOs. The hybrid combat feels very action-based and there are clear differences between the classes available.
To sum it up, Blade & Soul is still one of the best MMOs out there and while it could have been amazing if it had released during 2013 in the west, it’s still shaping up to be a great game and one of the biggest MMOs of 2016, no matter how much some people will try to tell you otherwise.
